We spent the day today in Hot Springs with Bryan and Melissa, which is about an hour from Rapid City. The above picture is from the Mammoth Site.
This place was very interesting. Scientists speculate that it was a sinkhole that had warm water and vegetation, but very slick sides. So the mammoths would fall in while eating the grass. There were over 60 different mammoths in this one spot and it's an active dig site.
We swam in a warm spring pool. It's part indoor and part outdoor. They have waterslides and other fun areas. The kids had a blast :) I've got water slide videos and other pics from today is my South Dakota album.
Other Stuff from Today
Don't pet the fluffy cows!
We got a couple sneak peak views of Mount Rushmore on the way back to Bryan and Melissa's house. We will actually visit it another day.
So far, we have been to 17 National Parks (counting Wind Cave where we stopped briefly this morning), 8 additional historic sites (counting Mount Rushmore), 1 presidential library and been through 18 states.
