Day 8 - Finally... Some Waterfalls!

Gunnison, Colorado to Ouray, Colorado
Ouray, Colorado has a trail that goes all the way around the perimeter of the city. There are 2 waterfalls along the trail. The one above is Cascade Falls.

According to the NPS website, this is the tallest cliff in Colorado, the Painted Wall. From river to rim, the Painted Wall is 2,250 feet tall.
The views were nice, but overall this is not my favorite national park. I'm glad we saw it, but it's not on my list of places to revisit. The waiter tonight said it all depends on what time of year you go, so maybe summer just isn't the best time. The rest of the pictures can be found in my Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park album.

Box Cañon and Cascade Falls
We loved Box Cañon. It really reminded me of a place in Switzerland we visited called Aareschlucht. Not only was it cool because the waterfall was in the canyon, but there was so much water flow. This waterfall was definitely the highlight of the day (at least for me it was).

After seeing the waterfall, we hiked up to a bridge that overlooks the city of Ouray. This was part of the Perimeter Trail and the trail passes through a tunnel.

This is from the overlook above Box Cañon Falls looking down at the river.

Along with the waterfalls, there is a nature trail at Box Cañon. We didn't hike it, but we still saw chipmunks, ground squirrels, and several types of birds.

On the opposite side of town, yet still along the Perimeter Trail, was Cascade Falls. It was a short hike up to see the falls. You can see the rest of my Ouray pictures in my Ouray, Colorado album. I also have a couple short videos of the waterfalls.

We have driven about 2800 miles over the last 9 days!
