We spent the day hiking in the desert today. The above picture is from Grand Wash Trail in Capitol Reef National Park.
Capitol Reef National Park
I've heard from several people that when you go to Capitol Reef, you have to get the strawberry rhubarb pie. I was actually the only one who got strawberry rhubarb, but it was good.
These rock formations were truly fascinating. The cliffs looked like Swiss cheese with all the holes.
This is the Capitol Dome formation for which the park was named. I guess everyone is sticking to Zion because Capitol Reef was not crowded today. On another note, we all got a little overheated today with our hiking. It feels great in the shade, but it is HOT in the sun. I think we're all ready for some cooler weather.
Goblin Valley State Park
This stop almost got cut, but I'm glad it didn't. It was hot (and is really why we all got so hot) but the kids had so much fun here climbing and hiding on and behind the "goblins". FYI... They are really just short hoodoos.
On another note, the hotel Wi-Fi is currently down. Check out my Capitol Reef & Goblin Valley album for the rest of our pics from today.
So far, we have driven 5,800 miles on this trip. We have been to 11 National Parks, 4 additional historic sites, 1 presidential library and been through 13 states.
